Representatives for board sports retailers from across the US, Hawaii and Puerto Rico concluded their first annual strategic planning session in Sonoma, CA, over the weekend. The assembled group of action sport retailers formalized the Board Retailers Association by electing its initial advisory board of twelve members.
The Association’s president, Roy Turner, and vice president, Mike Duncan, explained the association was formed to give independent board sport retailers, those that specialize in the sale of surf, skate, snow, and wake boards, a united voice to communicate with their manufacturers, tradeshows and the media.
Other goals of the association, as voted on by the advisory board, include retailer education, communication among association members, and support of environmental initiatives.
Additionally, the Association plans to implement a national ad campaign aimed at re-enforcing the benefits of core related stores and their impact on the industry.
Initial Advisory Board Members include: Dave Hollander of Becker Surfboards,
Craig and Linda Sugihara of Town and Country,
Greg Bennett of Birthday Suits,
Luis Santori of Bora Bora,
Steve Carlson of Central Coast Surfboards,
Greg Smart of Inland Oceans,
Jergen Schulz of K5,
Debbie Harvey of Ron Jons,
Dave Nash of Sun Diego,
Jim Vaughn of Whalebone Surf Shop
Mikke Pierson of ZJ Boarding House.
