Tex Games Scheduled for July 6-7, 2001

Glacier, WA – The TEX GAMES are traveling to Omak, Washington, July 6th and 7th, 2001. This is the second annual grass roots festival that started at Mount Baker, Washington, at Tex Devenport’s Ranch.

This year’s event will also be a fundraiser for the Scott Stamnes Skate and Snowboard Fund to allow underprivileged kids to skate and snowboard. Scott Stamnes touched hundreds of people with his athletic ability, his sense of caring for others and his incredible powers of positive energy that have changed lives for the better.

Last year’s event was a huge success with pro athletes who graced the Tex Games with freestyle MotoX, vert skating and BMX dirt jumping. Crusty Demons of Dirt brought pro MotoX riders Seth Enslow, Bubba, Dave Turner, Bue Manley, Brian Downing and Shawn Pier. Pro skaters from west Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. included Mark Hubbard, Mike Swim, Andy Colgergson, Scott Smiley, and Mike Ranquet.

Twelve bands played various types of music on a 12,000 watt sound system provided by Triad Studios. Approximately 2000 people attended the festival. Magazines including Snowboard Magazine, Snowboarder Magazine, Snowboard Canada, BMX Canada, MX Rage and BMX Plus provided media coverage. Video segments of the TEX GAMES can be seen in Fleshwound Films – The Next Level and Mervin Manufacturing – Home School 4. Other films that include footage are Cold Smoke 2 – Hitech Rednecks. Footage was also broadcast on ESPN.This year’s event is hosted by an array of sponsors including: Glissade Snowboards, Mt Baker Snowboards, Red Bull, 3rd Hit Magazine, One Ball Jay, Northwest Boardsports, Mervin MFG, World Industries, Sessions, Da Kine, LA Honda, Volcom, El Monte, Alliance Snowboards, Fleshwound Films, Seattle Cycle Center, Washington Wind Sports, and Blue Torch T.V.

The event will take place at the Omak Rodeo Stampede grounds that accommodates 8,000 people. We plan to sell out the arena for two nights. The vert ramp will be outside the arena during the day. This allows pro skaters and pro BMXer’s to ride the ramp while bands perform. A BBQ will be provided by local venders on the banks of the Okanagon River.

When the night show starts, spectators will watch such events as Freestyle Motox, Freestyle snowmobile jumping on dirt, calf riding, pro bull riding, steer wrestling, and calf roping exhibitions. There will also be organized truck tug-o-wars. Boxing will be the last event followed by a concert headlined by the Super Suckers. This year we are taking the TEX GAMES to the next level and donating to a worthwhile cause.
