Vans Triple Crown Comes To Cleveland

Over 100 of the world’s best skateboarders will be competing at the second stop of the Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding, the Mountain Dew National Championships. The free event is set to take place on the shores of Lake Erie June 2 – 4 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Geoff Rowley, Steve Caballero, John Cardiel, Alan Petersen, and others will be vying for their share of the 45,000-dollar prize purse.

Skaters will be competing on the 48-foot wide halfpipe and 9,600-square-foot street course throughout the weekend. A special women’s competition will also be held on the street course and is expected to attract top female athletes from around the world including Vans pro riders Cara Beth Burnside, Faye Jamie, and Jessee Van Roechoudt.

In addition, an on-site public street course will give local Cleveland skaters a place to ride as well. For three dollars, local skaters can ride the banks, ramps, rails, and ledges during two-hour sessions throughout the weekend.

Following the skateboarding action on Friday, June 2, the Supersuckers, once referred to as “the Ramones in a head-on collision with Hank Williams,” will perform at 7p.m. Free tickets will be available through 105.7 FM and event sponsor Mountain Dew. Listen to 105.7 FM or stop by the Mountain Dew booth at the event for your chance to win free tickets.

And if that’s not enough, stop by the Chenga World Skatepark in North Ridgeville, Ohio on May 31 for your chance to ride with Vans’ pro skaters Kristian Svitak, John Cardiel, Alan Petersen, Julian Stranger, Karma Tsocheff, Wade Speyer, Howard Cooke, Chet Childress and Salman Agah. From 4 – 6 p.m., local skaters are invited to attend the “open skate” session and ride with the pros, and from 4 – 7p.m., the pros will be performing demos.

The Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding is sanctioned by World Cup Skateboarding and points from each stop of the tour count towards the overall WCS North American rankings and WCS World rankings.
