Hiking for early season turns is a rite of the fall season. Unfortunately, another rite of passage for far too many skiers and snowboarders is an early season trip to the hospital—or worse—because the got too aggressive too soon. With up to 16 inches projected for the Cottonwood Canyons this weekend, the timing of this video from Outdoor Research and the Utah Avalanche Center couldn’t be better. Brighton and Solitude are open, so there are safe shred options if you want to get your legs under you. If you’re considering getting out the Dynafits or Splitboard, it’s important to know what dragons may be lurking. This video is from Days Fork, which is just west (down canyon) from Solitude, and just over the ridge across from Alta and Snowbird.
